Best Instructional Videos: Major World Religions

Seeking to expand students' world views by helping them understand religions with which they might be less familiar? Offering kids a global take on religion lets them appreciate the perspectives of the many faith groups within, and outside of, the United States. In this way, kids develop the diversity skills they will need to succeed in the 21st century.

Description:  This documentary tells the history of one of the world's major religions. 

Cool Factor:  It's a long video, but there are parts that will intrigue students, such as the story of Jesus and interviews with experts. 

 

Islam: Empire of Faith - Part 1

Descrption:  Learn about the prophet Muhammad and the rise of Islam. It is the second most-prevalent religion worldwide (running a close second to Christianity) and is widely practiced in the Middle East and many other countries. 

Cool Factor:  This is a good, although not terribly exciting, documentary. Those who do not practice the faith will be interested to see how others live. 

 

The Entire History of Hinduism

Description:  This video offers the entire story behind the Hindu faith--commonly practiced in India and with other countries--and examines its associated culture and spirituality. 

Cool Factor:  Those who do not practice the faith will be interested to see how a religion is also a culture.

Description:  Join historian Bettany Hughes as she explores the different beliefs and practices of Buddhism. 

Cool Factor:  Students will be interested to see the "seven wonders" of the Buddhist world and learn about this religion commonly practiced in Asian countries.
