Last week, President Obama had lunch with Education Secretary Arne Duncan and four teachers, talking education, teaching and school reform. 

Justin Minkel, 2007 Arkansas Teacher of the Year, blogged about his experience talking with the president and Valerie Strauss, education reporter for The Washington Post, shared Minkel's post with readers. 

"President Obama has often been described as an eloquent speaker," he wrote. "I learned this week that he is an eloquent listener, too."

Minkel said he and five others sat in the West Wing of the White House for an hour-long conversation about education. 

"The four of us have each been teaching in high-poverty schools for over a decade, and the president asked us to respond to a few questions that were on his mind," said Minkel. "The president wanted to know: Why had we stayed in our schools? What could he and the secretary do to support teachers in high-need schools? What policies could ensure that students who need the strongest receive them?"
