history educationSite URL: ScienceKids.co.nz

Content:  Each section offers resources that are perfect for the classroom. Science videos, categorized by topic, can keep kids engaged. The site’s experiments, while familiar to veteran science teachers, are nonetheless excellent for enhancing project-based learning. Science Kids’ projects section offers loads of science-fair ideas. The site also features a fun science photo library with full image descriptions, online games, and a facts page full of essential science information.

Design:  While pages are very full, they are well organized and easy to navigate. This site makes particularly good use of images to define topics for kids. Topics include biology, chemistry and physics, among others. Educators will want to focus on the navigation bar at the top of the site, which offers games, quizzes, lessons plans and a range of other resources to help plan a science class.

science kidsReview:  Science Kids is great for both teacher and student use. One drawback is the site’s heavy advertising, which at times blends in with content. Also, this site is geared toward students in grades 8 and lower.

Bottom Line:  The site stores a wealth of information and shouldn’t be missed by science teachers seeking fun, hand-on activities for students.
