Gold stars all around to the wonderful folks who have created and maintained these Web
sites!
Cool School of the Week: January 31, 2006
South Houston High School, South Houston, Texas

Larri Hicks, the math department head and webmaster at South Houston high, resports, “I use Macromedia Flash
and Fireworks to create many of the visual and interactive aspects of the site. The district uses Front Page for FTP
and I sometimes use the WYSISYG aspects to edit text. I have never had any formal training in website design or on
any of the programs I use.”
Well, Larri has certainly done a bang-up job using his wits and math skills. This site is quite dynamic and bold,
with a black, red, and white color scheme and with rollovers, pop-ups, and other nifty features.
The navigation is quite clear, however, so you can definitely find your way around the site efficiently. The depth
and currency of the site are also very solid.
“The primary purpose of the site,” Larri writes, “is to offer information to students, teachers,
parents, and the community about the school and the many programs and activities we have to offer. The counselors
post information on scholarships, testing, and various school activities. This year we have revamped the entire Library
section and have also added information on colleges and financial aid.”
Mission accomplished, Larri. And Congratulations, South Houston High... You are a COOL
SCHOOL!
