QUESTION 1

HIV/AIDS Education -- Individuals age 20-29 now account for 1/5 of all reported AIDS cases. With an incubation period of 8-10 years, many of these cases were contracted in adolescence, prompting a debate about the need for HIV/AIDS education. You think HIV/AIDS education is:

A) A good idea. While abstinence is the most surefire way to prevent the contraction of HIV/AIDS in adolescents, promoting abstinence is not always successful. Junior high and high school students need detailed education on proper prevention methods.

B) A bad idea. HIV/AIDS prevention is best left for parents to address directly with their children. Schools should do no more than encourage abstinence.

C) Best done in moderation. Only higher grade level students should be given relevant information, by teachers specifically trained in HIV/AIDS education.

D) I have no opinion on this issue.

QUESTION 2

School Lunch -- School lunch is the butt of many jokes among students, but children's health and wellness is actually important stuff. You feel that school lunches:

A) Are nutritious, especially after the new regulations passed by the Agriculture Department. We don't need to make any changes in the policies governing school lunch.

B) Are not as healthy as they should be. They're still too high in saturated fat, for one thing. We need to further modify the policies governing school lunch.

C) Are better in some schools than others. If parents in a particular school feel that nutrition is not a high enough priority, they should push for reform there, but we don't need to make any more nationwide changes.

D) I have no opinion on this issue.

QUESTION 3

Violence in Schools -- School violence is an issue we often hear about in the press. Do you think that schools are, in general, safe places for students and staff?

A) School violence is a widespread problem; schools are not as safe as they should be.

B) School violence is an overrated problem; schools are generally safe.

C) Violence may be a problem in some districts, especially urban ones, but most schools are pretty safe.

D) I have no opinion on this issue.
