Dave's ESL Cafe
http://www.eslcafe.com
GRADE LEVEL: 7-12+

CONTENT:
Dave's ESL Caf is a great place to get together with teachers and students of ESL & EFL. This virtual community includes mailing lists, discussion groups, books, job listings, quizzes, idioms, slang, and much, much more.

AESTHETICS:
The site is nicely laid out, with a variety of light-colored backgrounds. Many of the titles use fun and fanciful fonts. There are few graphics.

ORGANIZATION:
The home page offers several different ways to get an overview of the site, including a general listing, a drop down menu, and an A,B,C's version. Most of the pages that are parts of larger sections have drop down menus to navigate the site with. You do have to use your browser's back button on some of the individual pages that do not have navigational.

REVIEW:
Dave's ESL Caf is a great place to sit back with a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy yourself. The site has much to offer (K-12) ESL teachers and (older) students, and is used by an international following. Dave's ESL Caf has discussion groups for teachers and students that cover a wide range of topics. Teachers, be sure to check out the "ideas" page for lots of useful teaching tips. The site has a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor, including a set of quotes that people probably wished they never said but that could be useful in teaching parts of speech in an entertaining way. Dave's also includes several useful pages about English slang words, idioms, and phrasal verbs. The site offers chat rooms that are especially good for students who wish to practice their English skills. Better pour another cup of coffee, because there's plenty more! The site has a great set of Java-based quizzes on a variety of topics suited to intermediate and high school students. Students may also want to click on the Help Center and get their questions answered. The bookstore is another great place to go. Dave has an extensive list of books that are available on the Internet. If you like this, you can subscribe to the ESL Cafe's Mailing List to keep up on all the new stuff being added al the time. Have fun!
