Kids Can Make a Difference

GRADE LEVEL: 6-12 & Professionals

CONTENT:
Kids Can Make a Difference (KIDS), an educational program for middle- and high school students, focuses on the root causes of hunger and poverty, the people most affected, solutions, and how students can help.

AESTHETICS:
KIDS Web site is clean-cut and professional, with very few graphics. It seems more geared for the eye of a teacher than a student.

ORGANIZATION:
This Web site uses a sidebar menu very effectively to guide the user to the various areas of the site.

REVIEW:
The KIDS tagline reads "Inspiring Kids to end hunger and poverty in their community, their country, and their world." This Web site does a good job of guiding and inspiring teachers in ways to encourage this with their students. There is a very comprehensive page of "Hunger Facts," and a follow-up quiz on the data presented. There is also a section entitled "What Kids Can Do," which lists ideas on how students can get involved. Many of those ideas can be adapted to the classroom. This page also lists things other kids have done, a surefire way to get students excited about taking action. Check out the Newsletter section and its links to articles from teachers about teaching about hunger; student poetry; artwork; and much more. The greatest asset of this site is its ability to generate creative ideas for teachers to inspire students to have critical thought and to take action about important social issues such as hunger and poverty.
