AESTHETICS:
The site layout is simple and straightforward. Geared to research, the site doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but it is not unattractive.
ORGANIZATION:
Users can browse the collection through the hyperlinked bibliography of books, which are organized alphabetically by author, or through journal articles, which are organized alphabetically by title. An online search tool enables users to fully search the scanned images of the original pages.
REVIEW:
This collection of more than 3 million pages of text in more than 8,000 volumes is available in the scanned versions of original texts or the uncorrected plain text versions. The primary sources cover the antebellum period through Reconstruction, 1850-1877. Both the book collection and the journals are fully searchable by simple search, Boolean search, or proximity search. The site also offers an extensive Help section, with tips for searching and finding information quickly. This is a site that history teachers, students, and researchers will find equally useful when studying this particular era of U.S. development.
