The Virtual Zoo
http://library.thinkquest.org/11922/
GRADE LEVEL: K-8

CONTENT:
The Virtual Zoo brings the world of animals to classrooms everywhere. The groupings include bears, African animals, small mammals, primates, reptiles, extinct animals, amphibians, ocean animals, birds, and cats.
AESTHETICS:
The site includes plenty of great graphics. It also features a pleasing variety of page layouts and backgrounds that help keep it interesting.
ORGANIZATION:
The animal groups appear on the main page as clickable graphics on a virtual zoo map. Each page has a link back to the homepage and/or the particular animal group.
REVIEW:
This site, created by kids for kids, offers information on many different animal groups as well as habitats and world biomes. Each section of the site has a clickable list of featured animals. There are lots of great graphics and sounds and a fact sheet for each animal listed. The fact sheets include classification, characteristics, and other pertinent information about specific animals. The authors' sense of humor is apparent in the Concession Stand, where the food is guaranteed to "have no fat, no cholesterol, no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors, no taste and, in fact, no substance whatsoever." Visitors are cautioned not to feed the animals. This would be a great site to use as a supplement to an elementary animal unit.
