Site Review: Parentables

Site URL:  http://parentables.howstuffworks.com

Content:  This site is effectively a multi-channel blog that offers articles on a variety of parenting issues. Topics run the gamut from food and nutrition to balancing work and home life.

Design:  A vertical main content area runs down the middle of the homepage. It displays in blog format with the most recent article on the top. There is a main navigation bar across the top of the page that directs users to topic-specific content.

Review:  The articles are helpful and easy to navigate. Because the site is operated by TLC, many of the network’s personalities show up as experts. Typically this would be cause for concern, but there is real insight from people such as “Little Couple” star Jennifer Arnold discussing surrogacy and genetic testing.

Teachers will benefit from the sections dealing with the balance between work and family, as well as nutrition and finances.

Bottom Line:  While not designed specifically for teachers, there is plenty of content here that educators will find useful. In addition, teachers or administrators may want to link to Parentables content in parent newsletters.
