REVIEW:
This online professional development resource for middle school mathematics teachers offers more than two hundred recommended investigations for teachers to solve and then adapt for use with their students. The thirteen units are clustered into the four mathematics strands: Number Sense, Algebra, Geometry, and Data Analysis. There are recommended investigations for each of the thirteen units within the strands as well as additional investigations that address the concepts. A handful of exemplary lesson plans are available for grades 5-8. All of the investigations are designed to deepen teachers understanding of mathematics concepts related to the middle school curriculum and are aligned to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards as well as the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). Additionally, an Interactive Mathematics Dictionary is available for students, parents, teachers or anyone interested in learning more about middle school math topics. Each of the terms has a definition, picture, links to websites and the investigations that address them.
