SITE REVIEW

February 2007

Start Here. Go Places
Info to help students toward business and accounting careers.
Grade Level: 9-12, Advanced

http://www.startheregoplaces.com/

CONTENT:
This site is presented by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and offers free resources and information that can help students on a path toward a successful career in business and accounting.
SITE DESIGN:
This rather busy site is surprisingly easy to navigate. There is a top navigation bar for accessing the five main areas of the site. At the bottom of the page, quick links are organized into three categories; Brain Bank, Dive-In, and Career Catapult. There is also a handy site map and a search tool with links in the upper right corner of the page.

REVIEW:
Students with an interest in pursuing a career in accounting and CPA certification will find everything they need to direct them on the right path with these free resources. There is study information, simulation games, scholarship and internship listings, profiles of successful CPAs and career opportunities. Students may want to begin by browsing the section, “Today’s CPA”, where they can learn about career specialties or career paths that may be right for them; see a list of typical salaries; listen as CPAs talk about their jobs; or watch a video of an interview with a real life CPA. Another area of the site offers interactive games that allow students to see what it really takes to be “CPA smart” by tracking down criminals, rising to CFO, marketing a new craze and more. Rounding out the site is information on courses young people can take in high school to begin to prepare for their career and a list of business schools and universities. Registration is necessary to access the universities section but it is free.
