CONTENT:
Art Explorer, from the Art Institute of Chicago, is an educational Web site that seeks to increase the appreciation and understanding of art. It includes collections of Impressionist and Postimpressionist works.
SITE DESIGN:
The site is well-organized and easily navigated. Graphic links on the main page offer naviagtion to the major areas of the site, and a left side menu gives access to quick links. Collections can be searched by keyword, artist name, and subject, and an advanced search option is also available. Users can also view a handy search help page. Shockwave Player and QuickTime are needed.
 

REVIEW:
This interactive site allows users to search for art and create scrapbooks with notes and share them with others. Teachers could use this tool to plan lessons for the classroom and students could use the tool to do reports and share them with the class. The collection focuses on Impressionism and Postimpressionism and includes original artworks. Video clips, artist biographies, activities, and online games are displayed when viewing an artwork. Resources are appropriate for a range of grade levels. A few scrapbooks are available for browsing.
