Grade Level: Professional

http://www.teachablemoment.org

CONTENT:
TeachableMoment.org brings current topics in the news to the classroom by providing K-12 educators with "timely teaching ideas to encourage critical thinking on issues of the day."
AESTHETICS:
The site has a simple user-friendly layout that uses few graphics.
ORGANIZATION:
The site is well organized into three main sections: Elementary, Middle, High, and Ideas and Essays. The various sections are available through the top and bottom menu bars. The latest activities are also featured on the main page of the site.

REVIEW:
TeachableMoment.org was developed by Educators for Social Responsibility (ESR) and provides classroom activities that help teachers to take advantage of "teachable moments" concerning issues that are in the news. The site is filled with articles and activities for use in the elementary, middle school or high school classroom. Topics include current domestic & international events, conflict resolution, and intercultural understanding. For instance, the Presidential Election of 2004 includes activities that help students understand issues related to weapons of mass destruction and why Presidents call for war. Additionally there is a "Tough Times Toolbox" with ideas for addressing students' feelings and thoughts in the wake of terrorism, war, and other upsetting events.
