REVIEW:
In this companion site to the PBS television series, History Detectives, visitors can view highlights of the episodes, learn to conduct their own historical investigations and study investigative techniques. Two sets of lesson plans are available for middle and high school students that integrate national standards and provide students the opportunity to conduct historical investigations in the context of their own environment. Students will learn about the sleuthing techniques that can be applied to historical mysteries such as ballistics, weapon dating, document examination, paper analysis and more. How-To guides provide all "the advice, tips and trade secrets you need" to get you started solving historical mysteries on your own. Topics for the How-To investigations include house histories, military history, printed items, vintage items and artifacts, and art. Included is a glossary, information on the expert team of investigators, and the opportunity to submit your own historical mystery for possible inclusion.
