REVIEW:
Teachers and students studying the age of exploration from ancient times to Captain Cook's 1768 voyage to the South Pacific will find this site useful. Lots of information is provided in a concise manner. The text has embedded hyperlinks that lead to maps and information for further study. Suggested activities include resources for teachers and directions for students. Some of the activities include creating a compass or astrolabe, identifying navigational instruments and parts of a ship, what would you take to sea, and latitude and longitude, as well as crossword puzzles and word searches. Additionally, a glossary, reading list, a document on the evolution of steering ships, and biographical snapshots are provided. This is a great site for students doing research on this period in history.
