CONTENT:
This Web site calls itself "the coolest newsmagazine for kids!" It includes news stories, snack ideas and recipes, and information to help students understand the news stories.
AESTHETICS:
Yak's Corner is attractive and appealing to students and teachers, with color photographs and easy to read text.
ORGANIZATION:
Each page on the Yak's Corner site features a sidebar menu with links to all sections. Navigation is simple, straightforward, and easy for students to use.
REVIEW:
Published by the Detroit Free Press, Yak's Corner is a weekly online newsmagazine designed for elementary students. From the main page, links are available for the newest stories. In addition, you can visit stories from the past by accessing the Yak News page. The section entitled Planet Yak offers links to pages where students can learn about the diverse populations that live on our planet. Examples from this page include information on the Kurds, North America's Inuits, The South Pacific's Maori, and Asia's Dahlits. Another page full of interesting information is called Amazing Animals allows students to learn about more than 30 interesting animals including yaks, giant squids, and wattled cranes. Other pages contain ideas and recipes for snacks and craft ideas related when possible to current news or holidays. Finally, the section for parents and teachers offers free teacher guides for each week's stories.
