CONTENT:
From the artist/writer of the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith cartoons, Fred Laswell, comes this fun and instructive art site for children grades 1-5.
AESTHETICS:
Draw and Color with Uncle Fred features colorful graphics and detailed instructions for drawing cartoon characters that that will appeal to young artists.
ORGANIZATION:
The site has a simple format. Character choices are listed on the right side of the front-page image map. Instructions for moving through the lessons are easy to follow.
REVIEW:
Early childhood and primary grades students will love this whimsical site! All they need is a pencil and paper to follow the simple, step-by-step directions for drawing a series of cartoon characters. Directions for such child appealing characters as a bunny rabbit, kitty, chimpanzee, panda, baby chick, and more are available. Children can get ideas for how to color the drawings by clicking on the link to see how Uncle Fred colored each character. These drawing lessons are great to combine with a writing activity that allows students to create a story about their picture. Additionally, students will enjoy printing and coloring the cartoons available in the coloring book.
