The Kennedy Center's ARTSEDGE
Dynamic site from a major arts institution.
Grade Level: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12

http://artsedge.kennedy-center.org/

CONTENT:
ARTSEDGE is a cooperative agreement between the National Endowment for the Arts, the United States Department of Education, and the Education Department of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. It provides teachers with quality resources and interactive opportunities for "teaching in, through and about the arts".
AESTHETICS:
The site has a colorful, user-friendly layout that can even be viewed on a small screen without horizontal scrolling. Some areas of the site have multimedia components for which you need special browser plug-ins that can be downloaded at the site.
ORGANIZATION:
The three major sections of the site are presented on the main page. Each section has a left side menu for navigating that area and a top menu for moving between the major sections. The site can also be searched in several ways and has a handy page of search tips so users can find just what they need.
REVIEW:
This site has a wealth of resources, approximately 15,000 files, for the K-12 classroom teacher. NewsBreak will keep you up-to-date with the happenings related to arts education in the US, as well as job opportunities, competitions, grants and funding, and fellowships or internships. The Teaching Materials include carefully reviewed and selected, standards based curriculum units, lesson plans, activities and other ideas for integrating the arts across the curriculum. Resources are arranged by curriculum area and can also be browsed alphabetically or by grade level. Don't overlook the Exploring the Arts, mini-sites! These rich resources are theme based and contain activities that can be used in the classroom or at home. Included in the materials section is a directory of Web links to other instructional resources. Opportunities for professional development, standards and exemplars, overviews and reviews of the latest books, research and software and guides on everything from authentic assessments to teaching strategies to rubrics and Venn diagrams can be found in the Professional Resources.
