Spring Creek Web
An inside view of youth detention.
GRADE LEVEL: 6-12, Parents

http://www.cssd11.k12.co.us/springcreek

CONTENT:
This Web site, developed by residents of the Spring Creek Youth Services Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, gives educators, parents, and community members a virtual glimpse into life at a youth detention center.
AESTHETICS:
The page layout is a simple table that serves the purpose well. Background and text are complimentary, and the photos are high quality.
ORGANIZATION:
The left-side menu contains links to the major areas of the site. Visitors can navigate internal pages by using the left menu or by following the arrows at the bottom of each page.
REVIEW:
This Web site was made possible through the Technology Literacy Challenge Fund Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Its purpose is to "provide at-risk students with computer and social skills needed to help them integrate back into society." Residents at the facility designed, created, and maintain the site as part of the integration of technology into the curriculum. Visitors can take a virtual tour of the facility and take a look at the traditional and non-traditional curriculum taught there. Be sure to follow the arrows at the bottom of the pages for a peek at the work students have produced in the various subject areas. The Artistic Expression section features visual art and computer art as well as insightful poems and short stories written by these troubled adolescents.
