Values: Making Choices for Life
The world would be a better place if we all had good values.
GRADE LEVEL: 3-8

http://library.thinkquest.org/J001709/

CONTENT:
This site was created by fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, at Kapolei Elementary and Kapolei Middle School in Hawaii for the ThinkQuest Junior competition. It focuses on "values that most people believe to be particularly important in life."
AESTHETICS:
The site, set in frames, uses a consistent background with cute graphics and animations to illustrate the narrative. QuickTime Player is required.
ORGANIZATION:
A left-side menu gives access to the various areas of the site. Each area has its own submenu and a link back to the home page.
REVIEW:
Values: Making Choices for Life helps youngsters understand, care about, and act on ethical and citizenship values. Teachers could use this as a supplement to their character education curriculum, or parents may want to go through the activities with their children or let them use the site independently. Some of the values included are respect, responsibility, cooperation, honesty, and environmental awareness. Each value is defined in several languages and links to a story that illustrates the value; You Make the Call gives students a simulation in which they must make choices based on the situation. Moral Combat Theater is a set of humorous video clips that illustrates the battle that kids sometimes face in order to do the right thing. Included are open-ended questions designed to make kids think and Ho'oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian process for resolving conflicts.
