alt text here

App Name: Sound Uncovered

Cost: Free

What does it promise? Sound Uncovered is another STEM geared application that allows students to explore the intricacies of sound. It also promises an interactive experience that students can learn from.

“How do you make a saxophone growl? Are there secret messages in music played backward? Why does the sound of gum chewing drive some people mad? Listen up and find answers to these questions and more as you take an auditory trip to the place where sound gets truly interesting: the space between your ears.” - iTunes

Does it deliver? Yes. The overall experience of this application is what makes it a successful learning tool for students. There are lessons that both students and teachers can learn from and the little interactive experiments like “Ten Queue Berry Mulch” are not only cleverly titled, but also holds a lot of educational value.

Sound is often a part of science that is overlooked in the classroom, however, if you want your students to understand the way sound works this application is a very useful tool. It’s clean, crisp and can also be very fun.

Can I use it in the classroom? Yes however, it may be better used in conjunction with hands-on/real life experiments. It’s a really good application for exploring detailed aspects of sound for example; many might not know that the temperature can affect sound or that musical scales can make an emotional impact.
