Site Review: Women@NASA

Site URL: Women.NASA.gov

Content:  This Web site includes a stunning collection of 64 videos and essays from women across the agency who contribute to NASA’s mission in many different ways.

Design:  With everything set against the blackness of space and speckled with distant stars, there is no question that this is a NASA site. Since the purpose of the site is to highlight female contributors to the agency, it is no surprise that yearbook-like pictures dominate much of the space. These images, combined with the accompanying videos, paint a more complete picture of who these women are and how they have helped advance the agency.

women at nasaReview:  NASA’s hope for the site is to “inspire girls everywhere to reach for the stars and explore the myriad of opportunities available to them through pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.” For that reason alone, the site can help teach female students that their potential for success is not limited by their gender.

The individual stories presented here are not just typical highlights; they are testimonials to the significant roles of women in high-level professions. They also illustrate the importance of academics and study.

Bottom Line:  Looking for resources that highlight women’s success in the workplace and demonstrate the importance of doing well in school? Women.NASA.gov is a great place to start.
