Site Review: Science Daily

Site URL: ScienceDaily.com

Content:  Generating nearly 15 million page views a month, Science Daily is one of the Internet’s most popular science news Web sites.

Design:  This site’s appearance can be a bit grating. While each page is set up in a standard Web format, the stark white background and blue-and-black text can be tough to look at for extended periods of time. The imagery, however, is gorgeous. Many of the illustrations that accompany stories are worthy of artistic display.

In terms of functionality, the site works as advertised. Links work properly, and they are labeled and placed in a manner that makes them very easy to use.

Science DailyReview: Updated several times a day with breaking news and feature articles, the site covers discoveries in all fields of the physical, biological, earth and applied sciences. Ample photographs and illustrations—along with links to journals and academic studies, related research and topics, encyclopedia articles, and videos—combine to make a truly comprehensive source for science news.

Science Daily is also an excellent study tool: a custom search function allows readers to do their own research using the site’s extensive archive of stories, topics, articles, videos, images and books.

The site is arguably best known for showcasing the top science news stories from the world’s leading universities and research organizations. As such, universities have come to rely on the site to disseminate scientists’ findings to the general public.

Bottom Line:  For educators seeking breaking science news and a solid research tool, Science Daily is the place to go.
