iPad App Review: Read Me Stories

Cost: Free

What does it promise?  Read Me Stories offers a selection of talking picture books with which beginning readers can read along. A new book is made available every day. The app also comes loaded with a nice selection of books to get you started. The books are for ages 4 and up.

Does it deliver?  Yes. The books are well illustrated and easy to read. They have simple storylines and are appropriate for young kids. Since a new book is added each day (and old ones are cycled out, though you can save favorites), kids can remain engaged as their reading skills improve.

Can I use it in my classroom?  This app would work well as a reading tool in a kindergarten or first grade classroom. The only drawback might be that because the app makes noise, students would have to use headphones to avoid disrupting the rest of the class.

All apps can be found in the iPad apps store under education.
