iPad App Review: Dolch Words

Share

App Name: Dolch Words

Cost: Free

What does it promise?  The free version of Dolch Words allows young students (K-3) to practice learning over 200 sight words. (A paid version contains more words.) Kids can learn the words by tracing them rather than having to sound them out.

Does it deliver?  It's a very simple app based around tracing the words, but it works. The tracing mechanism is brightly colored and fun to use, albeit a little clumsy. There are a variety of ways to learn, as the app will speak the words in a clear, well-recorded voice.

Can I use it in my classroom?  This app offers kids who learn visually and through repetitive motor skills a way to work on sight words.
