Back-to-School Apps Offer Big Bang for Buck

Back-to-school time: new clothes, new classes, maybe a little anxiety about what lies ahead—and of course, students stuffing piles of disorganized papers into their backpacks. In an effort to combat this phenomenon, software firm Appitalism has released a series of back-to-school apps that clear the clutter and help students, parents and teachers get back into the swing of things. All of the apps listed below can be found in their respective app stores via mobile phone.

Back-to-School List (Free for Android)

This list app allows students to clearly categorize the supply list handed out by the teacher. While it may seem redundant to copy a paper list into an electronic version, the likelihood of the list getting lost is dramatically reduced. Also, tech-savvy students are more likely to be active participants in back-to-school shopping if they use some type of technology during the process. It’s a win-win: Parents only have to make one trip to the store, and teachers have students who show up with supplies in hand.

My HomeworkNOW & School Alerts (Free for iPhone)

Most schools have an elaborate call system when weather prompts a delayed start or complete closure. It’s always good to be one step ahead, however, and that’s what this app promises. Real-time alerts are sent right to the user’s phone, so instead of getting the call just as they’re about to pull out of the driveway, parents can field it from the comfort of their beds.

School (Free for Android)

This schedule app allows you to plan your day, week, month or even year down to the minute. There are special functions for tests and homework that provide alerts when these events are coming up. School is completely customizable and can be tailored to fit anyone’s schedule.
