iPad App Review: Macbeth

App Name: Macbeth

Cost: $9.99

What does it promise?  Shakespeare’s darkest and most-performed play comes to life in this video-enhanced edition from Providence eLearning.

macbethDoes it deliver? Yes. This is a rare app review that isn’t for an app. Rather, the Providence eLearning version of Macbeth is a digital book that can be found in iTunes. While technically not an app, this version of Macbeth might as well be. Professor William Lasseter provides a unique audio narration of the work, along with scene-by-scene analysis in the form of video lectures. This highly complex and layered text becomes exciting as Lasseter guides readers through Macbeth’s descent into murder.

Using the latest tools, Providence eLearning has joined other digital publishers in pushing the limits of technology in order to provide the most engaging learning environment possible.

Can I use it in my classroom?  There are many Macbeth apps and digital books available for the iPad, and Providence eLearning’s is one of the best. A real asset in the classroom, it does a good job of presenting the original work while offering the right amount of interactivity and supplementary materials.
