App Name: Grid Lines
Cost: $1.99
What does it promise? This Battleship®-style math game, intended for upper-elementary and middle-school students, helps kids practice plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate grid in all four quadrants.
Does it deliver? Players can race (in two-player mode using Bluetooth) or practice (in single-player mode). They identify two locations (ordered pairs) on the grid by drawing a straight line from one edge of the game board to the other, passing through the two locations. Shapes are located are located in all four quadrants of the coordinate grid, and students score points for each shape that his or her line touches (or through which his or her line passes).
Grid Lines meets the Common Core State Standards for math.
Can I use it in my classroom? Great for helping students understand the concepts of coordinates, planes and grids, Grid Lines is certainly worth a look.
