iPad App Review: Aesop for Children

Cost: Free

What does it promise?  This is a book app designed to be enjoyed by readers of any age. The book contains over 140 classic fables, accompanied by beautiful illustrations and interactive animations.

Does it deliver?  Yes. Because Aesop’s classic tales are meant for younger readers, the app’s limited, yet effective interactivity is appealing. The stories are meant to be read by early elementary students, for whom an abundance of animation and interactive features would distract from the story.

The fables remain a popular choice for character education in the classroom. Younger students will be able to trace the origin of aphorisms such as “sour grapes” while honing their literacy skills.

Additionally, the use of iPad swipe technology introduces younger learners to 21st-century methods for reading on a mobile device.

Can I use it in my classroom?  Because this app offers so much for young students, every early elementary class with an iPad should have it.

All apps can be found in the iPad apps store under education.
