App Name: Dinosaur Train Mesozoic Math Adventures
Cost: $2.99
What does it promise? The Dinosaur Train Mesozoic Math Adventures app contains four interactive games based on the hit PBS Kids series “Dinosaur Train.” Each game has three levels of difficulty that challenge each student when s/he is ready.
Does it deliver? Students will develop math skills including counting, sequencing and statistical problem-solving and explore life-science vocabulary and concepts alongside characters Buddy, Tiny and Don.
The app contains four separate learning games, each of which focuses on a different academic discipline:
Life Cycles
Students observe Buddy playing by a pond and watch as he discovers things in and out of the water. By helping Buddy put the living things in the correct order of their life cycle stages, kids discover how things grow and learn early biology and sequencing skills.
Don’s Collections
Don loves to collect fossils, shells, minerals and more. Students will help Don compare and organize his sets of objects. By doing so, they will learn to collect, organize and present data in a bar-chart format, identify and compare quantities and practice statistical problem-solving skills.
Build a Scene
Students will create their very own landscape using animals and plants from the Cretaceous, Triassic and Jurassic time periods. It’s a fun and creative way to develop environmental vocabulary and understand concepts from the different time periods.
Through the Window
Buddy and Tiny are looking out the train window as it stops along the Cretaceous, Triassic and Jurassic time periods. By looking for trees, mountains, plants and rocks, students practice counting skills and build environmental vocabulary.
Can I use it in my classroom? This app is perfect for early elementary classes and can be used in association with math or science lessons.
