Video Roundup: Major Artists

What is art? Art is defined to be the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in visual form such as paintings or sculptures. Throughout the history of the world, there have been hundreds upon hundreds of major artists who have contributed beautiful works of art. 

In order to help teach about the lives and famous works of these artists, EducationWorld has curated the following collection of videos. In addition to a description of each video, we include a suggested grade level and note its capacity for student engagement, or "cool factor". 

1. Vincent van Gogh, 1853-1890: Post-impressionist painter of Dutch origin.

Cool Factor: Students will be able to learn about Monet at a quick pace. This video has plenty of information about the artist and will engage students. 

 

3. Michelangelo, 1475-1564: Italian sculptor, painter, architect, poet, and engineer

Most Known For: Sistine Chapel ceiling, David, The Creation of Adam, The Last Judgment

Cool Factor: It will be interesting to watch people looking at the ceiling and hear their thoughts, as well as learn about the history of Michelangelo and one of his finest works. 

 

4. Leonardo da Vinci, 1452-1519: Italian painter, sculptor, musician, mathematician, engineer and more.

Description: This video tries to answer the question: Why is the Mona Lisa so famous? Follow the narrator as he takes a closer look at the origin and meaning of the painting. 

Cool Factor: The video is humorous and the narrator attempts to appeal to a younger crowd.
