This Week's Online Find
If you're a bookophile...a reluctant reader...the parent of teens...a middle- or high-school teacher (of any subject)...a teen who loves books...a teen who "hates" to read...a student struggling to understand your assigned reading...really, whoever you are...go immediately to 60second Recap and bookmark the site. This is a url you'll want to hold on to.
The mission of 60second Recap is to "make the great works of literature accessible, relevant, and, frankly, irresistible to todays teens...not just to help them get better grades, but to help them build better lives." But it's really a site for anyone who's ever loved -- or strugggled with -- a book. And it's a site that warrants my highest praise: "Why didn't I think of that?"
Chatting the USA
Last year, third graders in Brewer, Maine, conversed through Web conference with classes from Florida to Alaska. Intrigued by their differences, it was the many similarities the children shared that forged special connections.

Edutainers Make Lessons Relevant And Engaging
In coining the term "edutainer," Dr. Brad Johnson and Tammy Maxson McElroy aren't suggesting that teachers juggle at the front of the room, but rather that teachers should use some entertainer-type skills to help make lessons more relevant and engaging.

Brenda Dyck: Brenda's Blog Is Their Work Really Their Work?
Its [the teachers] job to make sure that the student work theyre assessing is indeed the students work. Anything less turns education into a charade.
Bernie Poole: Reflecting Poole Gradebook Programs: Why Use Them?
