On October 16 wordsmiths across the United States will celebrate the 240th anniversary of the birth of Noah Webster, considered by many to be the father of the American dictionary. What a perfect time to celebrate words! So this week Education World offers several "wordy" stories!
We invite readers to take an online tour of some great dictionary and word game sites in this week's CURRICULUM story.
A LESSON PLANNING story challenges the notion that "ABC books are for babies." Indeed, creative teachers can adapt the ABC book concept to any topic, at any grade! Need proof? Check out this week's LESSON PLANNING story, which includes more than 200 ideas for ABC books that students across the grades might create.
And while you're at it, check out a handful of the newest ABC books for kids of all ages in this week's BOOKS IN EDUCATION story.
To read these stories, return to the Education World home page or click below:
Also this week: Check out Ed World's tribute to popcorn on the LESSON PLANNING page -- celebrate National Popcorn Month with a fresh batch of cross-curriculum activities.
And read about efforts to help beginning teachers achieve success on the ADMINISTRATORS page of this week's edition of Education World. |
