Heroes
"Heroes" is a popular teaching theme. This week, the week of Martin
Luther King's birthday, Education World focuses on handful of stories on
helping teachers work heroes into their classroom curriculum.
Among the stories worth checking out:
- Heroes Online: Looking to the Web for Those We Can Look Up
To Some heroes receive national acclaim; others work tirelessly and
thanklessly for issues close to home and our hearts. You can use the
resources of the Web to encourage this type of dedication in your
students and get them thinking about the people they look up to!
Included: Ten Web sites to work into your lessons!
- The Giraffe Project: Encouraging Kids to 'Stick Their Necks Out' for Others
Everyday heroes are toasted by the Giraffe Project,
which shares news of individuals who are making a difference in their
communities. Through the program, children learn that they can not only
find giraffes in their own communities, they can become giraffes
themselves! Included: Comments from teachers and students who've been
inspired by the Giraffe Project.
- Great Sites for Teaching About Heroes
Teacher Walter McKenzie tracks down the best of the best Internet resources for
teaching about heroes!
