The first annual kid’s yoga day will debut for the first time April 8 from 11:00-11:05 a.m. PT.
Despite being its first debut, 37 states and 12 countries are expected to be participating in the day-- dropping everything for five minutes to allow children to do their best or favorite yoga pose.
100 global ambassadors have also endorsed the day, which was envisioned and put into implementation by Teresa Anne Power. Power is also the author of the upcoming book, The ABCs of Yoga for Kids: A Guide for Parents and Teachers.
Power is an expert and firm believer in the benefits that yoga has for children. For one, she says yoga is an excellent way for children with ADD, ADHD and other learning disabilities to channel excess energy.
She also says that yoga can pave the way for a lifetime of health and fitness, and does a good job promoting the whole child as opposed to more extreme sports.
Last month, The Seventy-Four discussed how some schools that feature yoga in the classroom have reduced suspensions and seen less disciplinary issues as a result.
Many schools that offer yoga to students have found that it helps students reduce stress, deal with trauma and help with special mental health needs.
