Writer Counters Claim That Communities Don't Support Education

HEAV: A Community Supporting Education

In a News Leader letter to the editor, Joel Salatin aimed to counter the common perception that communities do not support education. His letter responded to a previous opinion piece by Josh Waldron, who wrote about his decision to leave the classroom after feeling little support. 

"At the [Home Educators Association of Virginia] convention, thousands of families converge each year investing millions of dollars and hours in education," Salatin wrote. "If you want to see a community of people dedicated to education, this is it."

"These are not wealthy families, [yet] they don’t ask for taxpayer assistance," he added. "They don’t complain about their communities. They don’t ask for buildings or buses."
