Some states, like Illinois, have adopted Common Core standards statewide. Others, such as Alaska, have left the decision to use the standards to the individual districts.
In Oregon, officials are asking to press the pause button.
"Portland Public Schools, the state's largest school district, asked the state to delay using Common Core-aligned testing to evaluate teachers, students, school districts and individual schools. State education officials have asked the Education Department to grant a one-year delay in using results from the new, Common Core-aligned assessments as part of a teacher's evaluation," according to the AP article.
