Each of the 51 printable Mystery State work sheets presents five clues to the identity of one of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.). Students use the clues to help them identify that place.

Clue 1: This state has 120 counties.

Clue 2: Originally, this state was part of Virginia.

Clue 3: This state is bounded on the west, north, and east by three rivers: the Mississippi, the Ohio, and the Big Sandy.

Clue 4: The Mammoth-Flint Cave system, which at 300 miles long is the largest underground cave in the world, is in this state.

Clue 5: Jefferson Davis, who was president of the Confederate States of America, and President Abraham Lincoln were both born in this state.
