Who Works at Our School?

Students worked hard all week? Do they deserve a special reward for a job well done? This activity will offer students a nice break from structured learning. Adapt it to fit your needs. Have some Friday Fun!

DESCRIPTION

Tell students that they are going to interview members of the school staff and share what they learn with the entire school community. Each student will create questions to ask a different member of the staff. The end result will be a bulletin board that will be very popular with the entire school community.

  • modeling good interview questions by posing questions to students, then asking them what they learned about their peers from your questions.
  • discussing with students what makes a good question and what kinds of questions might elicit interesting answers.
  • looking at some interviews with popular author J.K Rowling (Harry Potter) and talking about the questions that were most interesting.
Note: You will want to enlist the cooperation and support of the school staff before beginning this project. If possible, include the principal, secretary, teachers, lunchroom, and custodial staff among the interviews.
