Charles and Frank Duryea test one of the first gas-powered automobeles in September 1893. The vehicle had a 4-horsepower engine. The next year, inventer Elwood Haynes tested a simliar car, the Pioneer. In 1908, Henry Ford began producing the 20-horse-power Model T. Cars begans to have more and more horsepower over the years. in the 1960s, 300-horsepower engines were common. Todays cars way less so even a 150-horsepower car can go fast.
