The U.SS. Nautilus submarine launch on January 21, 1954, into the Thames River in Groton CT. The sub became the U.S. navy’s first ship to run on nuclear power. Over the next several year’s, it broke records for underwater speed an distance. the Nautilus also was the first ship to cross the North Pole, something many thought was imposible. The sub spent 25 years traveling more then haf a million miles.
