Materials Needed

  • a world map (resources provided)
  • Map a World of Facts printable page
  • access to resources with maps (for example, atlases, encyclopedias, the Internet)

Lesson Plan

This activity requires that students have access to the Internet or to plenty of maps, sets of encyclopedia, and other geography resources. Students might work on this activity on their own or in pairs.

Print out a world map for each student. If you do not have a map to use, here are a couple of free online sources for you:
World Map 1
World Map 2

Provide students with a copy of the Map a World of Facts printable page. You might print out the page for each student or student pair or you might save paper by projecting the image of the page on a screen. You can do that by

  • using a projector attached to your computer or
  • copying the page onto a transparency and using an overhead projector to project it on the wall.

Challenge students to pinpoint on their world maps the locations associated with each of the ten facts presented on the Map a World of Facts printable page.

Assessment

Check students' maps for accuracy.
