Keywords

art, spring, art project, eggs, Easter, Easter eggs, flowers, bulletin board

Materials Needed

  • shells from color-dyed hard boiled eggs
  • glue
  • outline of a flower (resources provided)

Lesson Plan

Next time you make hard-boiled eggs to bring to a party, why not color the eggs too? Then when you shell the hard-boiled eggs to put them into a serving tray, save the colored shells. Break them up into small pieces. Then let your students use them to "paint" spring flowers. Instead of using paint, students will glue the tiny pieces of eggshell inside the outline of a flower. The colorful flowers will make a great spring bulletin board display!

Provide students with a template of a flower outline. Or you might provide a selection of flower "coloring pages" from which students can choose. You'll find some good resources on these Web pages:

Assessment

This project requires students to have a little bit of patience and care. You might share in advance that you would like to see how much patience they exhibit as they create their works of art and assess their abilities to do that. Also, did students follow directions?
