The Case of the Disappearing Frogs

Brief Description

Students sift through a lineup of environmental suspects to solve a case of disappearing tadpoles.

Students understand the interrelationship of living things.

Materials Needed

The Case of the Disappearing Frogs
computers with Internet access or a printout of the Web site text

Lesson Plan

  • Invite students to read about The Case of the Disappearing Frogs online or provide them with a printout.
  • Organize students into pairs or small groups and assign one suspect to each group.
  • Have each group prepare and present to the class a written report on prior "crimes" its assigned suspect has committed against the environment.
  • Based on the reports, invite students to vote for the suspect they consider most guilty of the crime.
Extension: Set up the Investigate Acid Rain experiment in the classroom and chart the results.

Assessment

Evaluate students on the quality and accuracy of their written reports.
