Brief Description

Students explore probability by predicting the probability of the occurrence of each color in a sample of M&Ms.

Objectives

Students are introduced to the concept of probability.

Lesson Plan

Note: Students can complete this activity individually or in small groups, depending on the amount of materials available.
  • Print and distribute the Probability with M&M's work sheet to each student or group of students.
  • Provide each student or group with a cup of M&Ms.
  • Review the work sheet with students and answer any questions they have about the activity.
  • Have students follow the directions on the work sheet to complete the activity.
  • Discuss the results.

Assessment

Evaluate students on their ability to follow the directions on the work sheet and respond appropriately to the questions.
