Brief Description Students read and discuss the poem "In Flanders Fields," then write poems evoking images of peacetime. Objectives Students practice the techniques of writing poetry while using textual imagery to create visual images.Keywords World War I, poetry In Flanders Fields (scroll to the bottom of the page) or a printed version of the poem Lesson Plan Ask students to read, or read aloud to students, the poem "In Flanders Fields." Discuss with students how the author used words to create a visual picture of war. Brainstorm with students words they think convey a picture of peace and build a class list. Then ask each student to write a poem about a peaceful world.
