Lesson Plan

Arrange students into groups and have each group research how insects and disease affected soldiers in past wars, especially the American Civil War. Then arrange students into an even number of small groups. Designate half the groups as Union soldiers and half the groups as Confederate soldiers. Have each pair of groups create a short skit about the effects of insects on the outcome of the war. Invite students to present their skits to the class.
