Brief Description

Students write a skit about the impact of insects on the Civil War.

Objectives

Students will

  • explore the effects of insects on history and write a play about the effects of insects on the American Civil War.

Materials Needed

Lesson Plan

Arrange students into groups and have each group research how insects and disease affected soldiers in past wars, especially the American Civil War. Then arrange students into an even number of small groups. Designate half the groups as Union soldiers and half the groups as Confederate soldiers. Have each pair of groups create a short skit about the effects of insects on the outcome of the war. Invite students to present their skits to the class.

Assessment

Students will be evaluated based on the accuracy of the information in the skits.
