QUESTION:
What student contact information must school districts provide to military recruiters upon request?
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION:
Each local education agency (LEA) receiving assistance under the No Child Left Behind Act must provide, on a request made by military recruiters, access to secondary school student names, addresses, and telephone listings. However, a secondary school student or the parent of the student may request that the student's name, address, and telephone listing not be released without prior written parental consent. The LEA must notify parents of this option to make a request and must comply with any request.
