Site Review: Science4Us

Site URL:  https://www.science4us.com/index.php

Content:  Science4Us offers a complete, standards-based, core science curriculum that delivers interactive digital science experiences to early elementary students (grades K-2). The site aims to provide a solid foundation of fundamental science concepts for younger learners, while developing their interest in the subject. Teachers also can access pedagogical and content training that does not require a large time commitment.

Design:  The site's design is colorful, yet not overly cluttered. Content is well-organized and easy to navigate, with tabs devoted to each of four areas of science (physical, life, earth/space and inquiry) and subtopics arranged under each of those.

Review:  Educators will enjoy browsing a variety of brief video-lesson demos of particular science topics--for example, one asks kids to complete analogies that demonstrate different types of energy and their uses. This is top-notch content delivered in an engaging manner; students will enjoy the animated songs, poems and stories. The lessons even incorporate literacy and math skills.

Science4Us was a 2014 finalist for Edtech Digest's Cool Tool Award. Even better, a 2013 evaluation revealed that in terms of student achievement, the Science4Us curriculum outpaced traditional science instruction.

Schools can sign up for a 60-day trial and request pricing information for full access to the site's 28 two-week teaching modules, which include online and hands-on/investigative activities for students. Subscribing teachers also will receive support from content experts and veteran teachers.

Bottom Line:  Science4Us has everything--including professional development--that early-elementary teachers need to deliver high-quality, engaging science lessons.
